Holiness and righteousness (Lev 19:2; Isa 5:16; 57:15a; Eph 4:24)
Reflected in Jesus Christ (Rom 8:29; Col 1:15; Heb 1:3)
God calls human beings to serve as His image-bearers.
Passing down of life (God —> Adam —> Seth)
Seth’s line is clearly connected to the image and life of God.
Adam, who was made in the likeness of God, “fathered a son in his own likeness, according to his image” (Gen 5:1, 3). This means that Seth had the same image that Adam had, the image of God.
In Seth’s line, people began to call upon the name of the Lord (Gen 4:26).
Contrast the line of Cain (Gen 4:17-22) with the line of Seth (Gen 4:25-26; 5:1-32).
No mention of this “likeness of God” or calling upon the Lord in Cain’s family line.
God’s chosen people are to reflect His image.
God chose Seth’s family line, from which He chose Abraham (Gen 12:1-3; 18:19) and eventually Israel (Deut 7:6).
Israel was chosen to reflect His image, shine as a light, and glorify Him (Isa 41:8-9; 42:6; 49:3).
Today, we as believers are also chosen by God (1 Pet 2:9) and are expected to reflect this same image (Rom 8:29; Col 3:10).
